This beautiful air is believed to be a composition of Ireland’s best known harper and composer Turlough Carolan (1670–1738). Carolan was a blind harper who travelled throughout Ireland composing tunes and songs in honour of his various patrons. Over 200 of his melodies survive. His style was influenced by the old Gaelic harp music, folk music and Italian Baroque music which was very popular among his patrons at the time.
