Aoibhneas Éilis Uí Cheallaigh / Elizabeth Kelly’s Favourite
Traditional Irish Music for Harp Ensemble
arranged by Gráinne Hambly & William Jackson

Arranged for 2 harps or harp ensemble.

This traditional Irish slip jig (a type of dance in 9/8 time) was collected by Breandán Breathnach from the County Clare fiddle and concertina player John Kelly (1912-87), and is published in Ceol Rince na hÉireann, volume 1 (1963). John learned the tune from his mother Elizabeth, hence the title.

This tune was originally arranged as a duet, but we have since worked on it with various harp ensembles. In those settings, we have experimented with adding a more basic part which consists of a simplified version of harp 1 (bass line only for the intro and ending, melody or melody with simple chords for the main body of the tune). Another option for the ending section (bar 81 onwards) is to leave out the semi quavers in the right hand part.
