NEW: Wednesday Workshops – Fall 2026

I am delighted to offer another series of workshops running from September to November 2026, with separate series for upper elementary / intermediate and advanced levels. Each series will include a focus on the arranging process, through working on contrasting pieces and styles of arranging. I will also be offering another series on ‘Newly-Composed Irish Tunes’ as so many people have asked me about doing this series again (these will not be harp compositions but newly composed melodies by various composers in the Irish tradition which I have arranged myself).
Participants sign up for a course of 4 workshops at their chosen level/topic, one per month, for a fee of €120. Workshops take place on Wednesdays, usually 8.00-9.15pm Irish Standard Time (3.00-4.15pm Eastern) except where otherwise stated below.

An audio recording will be sent to participants in advance so you can familiarise yourself with the tune ahead of each workshop. The workshop itself will be taught by ear, live on zoom and will be video recorded with an access link sent afterwards so you can review at your leisure or catch up if you couldn’t make the live workshop. Sheet music will also be provided.

The dates for each series are as follows:
Upper Elementary / Intermediate Level:
Dates: Sep 2, Sep 23, Oct 7 [earlier time 6.00pm] or Oct 14 tbc , Nov 11
This workshop is intended for upper elementary and intermediate level players. We will learn various types of Irish tunes in their basic version and then work on adding ornamentation (including cuts, triplets and trebles) and left hand ideas. We will look at how the written music differs from how tunes are played and this workshop will also incorporate elements of technique, style and tips for effective practising.
Advanced Level:
Dates: Aug 26, Sep 16, Oct 7, Nov 11 [earlier time 6.00pm IST]
These workshops are for anyone already familiar with learning by ear and playing Irish traditional music. We will work on more advanced ideas for ornamentation, adding variations and arranging ideas as well as adding some new tunes to your repertoire! (In this series I plan to focus more on the arranging process, with more detailed discussion of how it applies to contrasting types of tunes)
Newly-Composed Irish Tunes (mixed levels):
Dates: Sep 9, Sep 30, Nov 4, Nov 18
This workshop series will explore tunes by some contemporary composers in the Irish musical tradition - ie modern-day musicians composing tunes in a traditional style. It will not include tunes by harper composers, but we will work on arrangements of tunes where the composer has composed the melody line. This will include some dance tunes and some slower tunes, of various levels, but is probably best suited for intermediate/advanced players.
